Aptos isn't inside any city, so Santa Cruz County is the local government here, and permit questions go to the county's UPC permit center, which issues its building permits. Before we start, we check with the county for your address, and where a permit is needed we handle the paperwork and set up the inspections, so your start date can wait on the county's calendar as well as ours. When you're comparing contractors, ask each one who pulls the permit and books the inspections, because that step is easy to leave out of a quote.
Aptos is an easy drive up the coast from our home base in Seaside, and we plan days here the same way we do there. The price turns on what I find once I'm up in the attic or under the floor, mainly how many inches are already down, whether old insulation is wet or soiled and has to come out first, how many gaps need sealing, how tight the access is and whether you pick foam or loose fill. The schedule turns on the county permit if one's needed, on whether removal comes first and on winter storms, and your own figure comes from the estimate I write on site.
